It comes with highly advanced features, great imaging features with an easy-to-operate flying camera for less than $2,000.
The Multipurpose DJI Phantom 4 Professional
This drone is useful in all fields of study and occupation such as research and surveillance. It can not only be used in high definition photography but also in fields such land surveys and mapping etc. They are being used in agriculture, construction, architecture, insurance and inspections. It finds application in smart cities and internet of Things (IoT) – think of all those charming little droids in Wall-E that did every chore and reported back to a mainframe. The possibilities are unlimited.
Features of the DJI Phantom 4 Professional
+ Frame – The drone is 12 pounds and has the dimension of 16 x 13 x 13 inches of length, breadth and height respectively. Its comes with an aerodynamic gimbal with smooth contours and curves. The propellers are with a few tucks and nips and come with a new twist and lock mechanism that prevent them from flying off in a crash. The motor on the underside has been exposed to allow cooling. This plastic aircraft comes with sturdy legs. At the top of the legs at the four corners lie the four optical sensors besides a few more at the sides and underneath the chassis. Each arm comes equipped with a red or white light that makes it easy to spot in the sky. These allow it to find and record the takeoff and homing positions so that it can return to them if necessary.
+ The Camera - hangs on the underside on a 3-axis gimbal between the two legs that keep it steady in the roughest conditions. It is a 20-megapixel camera with a big one-inch sensor and a mechanical shutter. This makes the sensor 4 times bigger than the sensors on the previous models imagine the great quality of the video captured by this bot. This 8-element lens system loaded with the 20 MP camera features 12 stops of dynamic range. This means great detail, color and contrast under intense and low light conditions. The camera has a better corner sharpness and chromatic aberration and an improved lens.
The gimbal too comes with a pair of swivel joints connected to both the sides of the camera for better stability. The mechanical shutter eliminates the rolling shutter distortion that occurs while photographing fast moving objects. This drone also offers up to 4K 60 frames per second (FPS) video recording and slow motion at your fingertips. Good news for the codec geeks the camera offers a 100 Mbps of bitrate for H.264 4K at 60 frames per second and H.265 4K at 30 frames per second. Imagine all those surreal shots you can capture a bird flying in the early morning sun or those surfers rolling on the waves or the school of fish circling just under the surface from above or yourself on ski-jets.
+ Autonomous Flying - It comes with autonomous flying and tracking capabilities plus some new modes. Another exciting feature is Draw, that allows you to fly the drone in the direction (while keeping the altitude) of the line you trace on the screen. You just draw a simple line on the screen and the drone flies in that direction, sticking to its altitude. You can either have it do so and keep the camera locked into forward-facing position, or have the camera free to move in any direction.
Like the other DJI drones, this one too recognizes objects like trees, bikes, buildings, people and cars; and has the ability to follow them. It can fly up to speeds of 31 mph avoiding the obstacles. And in the sport mode, the optical sensors switch off to power the flight up to 40 mph.
In the Trace mode, it follows or leads in front of the objects. In the Profile mode, it flies alongside and in Spotlight it keeps the camera locked on to the moving subject and flies around freely. The Tapfly allows you simply tap on the screen and the drone flies in that direction. The Tapfly Backwards allows you to fly in the opposite direction while avoiding all the obstacles. Delightfully intelligent bot, isn’t it?
It can Return to Home by choosing the best route home considering the obstacles, objects and environmental conditions and record the route to trace its flight back just in case. It can also land at the same place it took off from.
+ New Remote - The remote is large and has two joysticks along with two more buttons on the top. One of them is the “Return to Home” button that returns it to the starting point. The “+" model of the DJI Phantom 4 Professional also called the Phantom 4 Pro+ has a remote that has a built-in 5.5-inch 1080p display that is two times brighter than the smartphone screen. The remote uses the optimized version of the DJI GO app that can be downloaded from the iOS or Android app store. It is optimized for less lag offering a real-time video feed without delay. The controller uses the DJI Lightbridge connection technology that gives you the range up to 4.3 miles while streaming video in high definition on the display.
+ Battery - Inside this plastic shell is encased a high density 5,870mAh battery which can give up to 30 minutes of flight time. The remote's battery lasts up to 5 hours on one charge.
